New Year's Eve at Swanwick

31st December

Some of our members represented Blue Diamonds at a New Year's Eve dance in Swanwick... It would appear that the theme this year was ‘pantomime dames’.

Visitors From Sweden

5th July

Linda and Patrik Lundmark came to our club in the summer of 2018, during their visit to the UK.  Apparently they really enjoyed their time over here.  It was interesting to know that they have the same problems attracting younger dancers to their club as we do.  Below is a picture of them with their camper van.

England played Sweden in the FIFA World Cup the same weekend and beat them 2-0... reaching the Semi-finals, for the first time in 28 years!

Grange-over-Sands Weekend

16th February

Yet again, Alan organised another great weekend, at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, Grange-over-Sands.  By all accounts it was as popular as ever, with around 120 dancers on the Saturday evening.

Unfortunately the same weekend, we received the sad news that Sue's Mum, Margaret had passed away. The following item appeared in the April edition of the LSD magazine.

Obituary - Margaret Sturgess

Margaret started dancing aged 84, soon after her daughter Sue joined Blue Diamonds.  Because they both enjoyed square dancing so much, like many Blue Diamonds members, they also joined Village Squares at Hilderstone.  ‘Sue's mum‘, absolutely adored square dancing and if you were to speak to anyone at either Blue Diamonds or Village Squares, I'm sure they'd agree that the feeling was mutual.

Sadly, Margaret passed away in February, following a short illness, aged 97.  Needless to say, she was our most senior member and still enjoyed dancing regularly, until her mobility became impaired in recent months.  Sue and her mum also regularly attended Christ Church in Fenton, where I'm sure Margaret's good humour and lively personality will be missed as much by the congregation there, as it will by the local square dance community.

Our thoughts were of course with Sue and family at this time, but since, I'm pleased to say that Sue (on the right in the above photo) is now back dancing again at Blue Diamonds.

Sunday Tea Dance

28th January

Following on from our successful Saturday night on 21st October 2017, Alan organised a Sunday Tea dance on 28th January.  As Alan said, any better ideas for a winter's afternoon?  Well to be perfectly frank, no, it was a good idea... Good company, good food, good raffle prizes and good to dance in a friendly environment.  Thanks to everyone who that supported this event and thank-you again to Alan and Tess.  Poster
